Gameplay

Super Donuts is a momentum and physics based 2D platformer without a jump button, mixed with the exploration and challenges of classic 3D Collectathons!

Each level has a set of baby donuts to find, collect them all to open the exit.

There's also three extra extra challenges per level:

  • Find the hidden Secret Sweet
  • Collect all 100 sweets
  • Beat RetroBreak's Time Trials

Each of these challenges will add 25% to the level completion, beat them all to get 100% and a flag next to the stage.

During your adventures through Sweetzerland, you''ll also encounter  a colourful cast of characters, feed them a certain amount of special sweets to unlock fast paced bonus stages.

As you beat the challenges, the board next to the level will update showing your progress, if you manage to get 100% completion you'll see a flag next to the stage too.

If you beat everything, there's an exciting prize to unlock!

Note from the developer

This game has been a labor of love over the past ten years! I began working on it back in 2015 when bored at work one day, eating doughnuts. (I prefer the American spelling though...)

I made a prototype of the game in a weekend and thought it was a fun idea, little did I know that 10 years later I'd still be working on it!

The game was originally released in 2017 as a mobile game for iOS and Android, but this brand-new PC version is a complete overhaul!

Everything has been completely revamped and re-programmed, including:

  • Redesigned levels
  • New graphics, enemies, boss fights, sound effects and UI
  • Improved physics for tighter controls
  • Two new gameplay modes, unlocked later in the game
  • Extra challenges exclusive to this release
  • Author time trials for every stage
  • Special 100% completion bonus

I hope you enjoy this game that I've poured so much time and love into over the past decade!

Thank you I am enjoying this game. I like the bouncy physics and catchy music for the levels. I am playing the linux version. I think someone wanted to see it on CRT which I still use for Wii and older games. I don't know how to take pictures without the flicker. You can use a steam deck to have controller support using the keyboard/wasd template. You can use a cheap HDMI2AV convertor to connect HDMI to Scart/AV cables.

That's so cool! Thanks of sharing! Maybe I should have made a 4:3 version for CRT's too...

OMG I can't believe that I have spend the past weekday , so many of my free time to play this game so much. This game is such a fun and engaging game with colorful sprite and monsters. The music is a nice choice as it is a chill and fun sound, really suit well with the level.

For the past 2-3 days I've been trying to beat the final level of the game but it seems like I can't because the game keeps crashing , at one point the whole just stops working and show the white error sceen. Even with a higher-end PC I can't seem to make it work. Suprisingly however, my low-end PC lasts longer with 5fps at the final level than the high-end one at the internet cafe for the crashing

Also It seems like that if I somehow reset fast enough at some point the level just went blank ?. It is unlikely to happen but doesn't affects me at all as you can just exit the level and try again

Overall, this game is fun, my only complaint is the last level and seems like only one person talked about that so I want to point it out myself too. I hope this gets fixed soon !!

Hey, I’m working on a fix this weekend! I’ve had a few people say the final level runs slowly… Stay tuned for a fix soon!! So glad you’ve been enjoying the rest of the game :)

Thank you so much, I can't wait to check it out again.

Btw, I have setup a speedrun page for the game, hope you can check it out:

that’s amazing! Try booting the HTML version back up now, it should be 3.8, I’ve reduced some of the effects in the final stage. - I've also updated the PC builds with the same fixes now too.

I played the Windows version through to 1-4 and beat the boss, but after defeating the boss, the game doesn't go any further. I have a big donut that was used to kill the boss, but nothing else. I can move the big donut around the screen but can't proceed to the exit....Only can quit the game back to the level select screen, and then I can proceed to the 2-1 level. (so obviously I beat it). Did I miss something to not be able to exit on the level 1-4 here?

that’s weird, it’s showing as donuts -1? Did you pick up the blue baby donut that drops when the boss is killed? Looks like somehow it counted it twice?? I’ll see if I can fix it by adding some code if donuts < 0, donuts = 0, then the exit should stay open if that glitch does occur…

Hi, should be fixed now! For some reason the PC builds were overwriting the number of donuts in the boss stages, resetting it back to 0 before it could calculate how many were meant to be displayed...

thanks! I will download the update soon and give it another go!

Great game - physics and control is great.

One comment on the Mac version is that there is no way to quit the game except Mac-Q keyboard. For PC is the same issue - only ALT-F4 to quit.

Can you add an exit game option to the main title screen that actually quits the program?

Other than that, really happy to see you release the game after a long development.  I love watching your YouTube channel too. Well done mate!

I want to add an exit button, and maybe a full screen / window toggle too and combine both the downloadable versions… it will take a while to update them all though.. glad you enjoyed the game anyway!

I've just created a new options menu that includes a "quit to desktop" button, and a full screen / window toggle :)

Excellent! Thanks for this.

i played it with CRT a bit and it is fun. I love the music too. Great stuff buddy, i wish i could show you how it looks on CRT.

That's awesome! You can upload images here if you want to show me! Or find my email / bluesky links on my website :)

Great game, full of charm, love the names. I like the summary at the end of each level to gauge progress and see how you compare with the maker, Retro break. Congratulations. The music is great too and the Physics feel right.

Enjoying it! Reminds me a little of Superfrog/PC platformers with a ton of Zool candy!

I found the game to be fun I am just not a PC gamer would this to be ported to a platform like GBA I think it would do well for of us who like playing on handheld emulation devices nice work regardless!

glad you enjoyed it! There is a possibility in the future for it to be ported to emulation handhelds natively! I’m going to start looking into it soon!

Roll around as a donut!!  Awesome game! It's clear that so much thought was put into the art, levels, and music. I love rolling around and finding the baby donuts. I haven't beaten the game yet, but can't wait to play more!

I found your game through the Stencyl forums! I actually just released a game that was thought of in a very similar way. But instead of donuts...tacos hahah. From one food Stencyl game to another -- congrats on finishing your game!!

Thanks! Good to meet another Stencyl dev, Good luck with your game too. :)

Gonna play more after work, fun game !

Awesome

Super fun!!!

Will this ever have controller support?

(-1)

don’t think it’s possible with the way Stencyl works. But you can download something like this to map the keyboard to a controller. I did that for play testing and it worked great!  https://joytokey.net/en/

nice game

Will there be a downloadable version in the future? This game well runs 98% of the time but I'd like to try this on PC. With an exportable save too.

yes there will be in the future. Need to sort out the licence fee to be able to export it first..

Hi, the PC build is available now!

What does the "75% complete" mean? I found all the sweets, including the secret one.

did you also beat  the time trial? They also add up the percentage. There’s 4 challenges per level, once you beat them all you’ll get a flag next to the stage that says 100%

Thanks! I do see that in the game description.
Now I need to find out what the 3 dots in level 2-1 are and how to go up past the Exit door.

Do you mean the brown dots? They are speed boosting chocolate balls, there’s yellow ones too which fly away as you go over them, but the brown ones stay in place. You can use them to help with the time trials :D good luck!

Amazing job, I would absolutely pay for a version to download on Mac!

thank you! I’ll add a Mac export soon once I’ve sorted the licence out

Mac download is out now! :D

This game takes me back to the days of classic Apogee games, but with its own twists.  Very fun game!

(it also got me to try out Stencyl for myself!)

thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Good luck with your game dev too if you decide to make something in Stencyl!

Awesome game - just finished the first world and I am absolutely hooked. I will be 100%ing this game for sure :D Well done Nick, you did an amazing job with this!

I would absolutely buy this on Switch. It would be a perfect match. Thanks for this labour of love, I'm sure i'll enjoy it.

Can you make Native Linux and Android versions please? I'm from the Portmaster Community and I'd love to expose your game to a wider array of gamers. Plus this would be a great game for Portmaster too. 🥺

Yes please! This was the first thing I thought when I watched your YouTube video. I'd love to have this on my TrimUI Brick!

I might be able to export a Linux build… I’ll need to buy the licence for Stencyl first, might look into it next week, I’ve also had people asking for Windows and Mac versions too… Feel free to distribute the game anywhere, happy for more people to be able to play it!

Hi, I've uploaded a linux build now! Let me know if that works for you! :D

I've just updated the Linux build with some bug fixes.

🙂👍 Thank You!
